CHIAM Yunxin is an Associate Director of the Firm with a broad-based contentious and advisory practice. Effectively bilingual, she regularly advises clients in both English and Mandarin

 

Yunxin has a broad range of advocacy experience and has acted as counsel in complex arbitration and litigation matters both domestically and internationally. She has also acted as lead counsel in numerous adjudications under the SOP Act. In the course of her work, Yunxin has handled a variety of high quantum matters, involving issues pertaining to breaches of contract, variations, defects, delays, wrongful termination, calls on performance bonds etc. She has acted for and advised developers, contractors and consultants in matters relating to residential buildings, office buildings, airport terminals, water reclamation plants and Mass Rapid Transit projects.

 

With her expertise on project advisory work, Yunxin regularly advises clients on project life cycles, and offers practical solutions relating to issues such as payment claims and responses, calls and resisting of calls on performance bonds, work suspension and termination of contracts, and enforcement proceedings such as writ of seizure and sale, garnishee applications and companies' winding up. She is also experienced in the drafting and reviewing of contracts and project documentation.

 

Aside from construction work, Yunxin also has keen interest in criminal defence work and has acted for individuals and companies faced with regulatory and criminal offences.

 

Prior to joining the Firm, Yunxin practised in one of Singapore’s Big 4 Law Firms in its infrastructure, construction and engineering department.

 

Beyond practice, Yunxin serves on the Law Society’s Building and Construction Law Committee and is an Associate Lecturer with the Singapore University of Social Sciences and teaches the Construction Law Module for the Bachelor of Building and Project Management course.

 

During her time in university, she received the University of Nottingham High Achiever Scholarship, the Nottingham Advantage Award and the Pro Bono Achievement Award. She was also President of the Nottingham Mooting Society and emerged as winner of the Nabarro LLP Tort Mooting Competition as well as the Rajah & Tann-Cambridge UK Mooting Competition.
