As a Practice Trainee, you will have the unique opportunity to work directly with our esteemed Managing Director, Mr. Christopher Chuah, and our other experienced Directors. You will be exposed to a diverse range of international arbitration, litigation and construction law matters as well as front-end advisory works and contract drafting, guided by some of the brightest minds in the industry. We are passionate about passing down our skills to the next generation of lawyers.

We value candidates who are well-versed in the law, supported by strong academic credentials. While it would be advantageous for a candidate to have taken modules related to construction law, this is not a prerequisite.

✓ What is the culture like at Christopher Chuah Law Chambers?

As a trainee, you will receive close guidance from our Directors and Associates. We will take a personal interest in your development as a future lawyer at the Firm.

✓ What are the prospects of retention?

We bring in trainees with a view to retention, as we are committed to work with those whom we nurture. As our firm prioritises the agility and adaptability of our team, we will be discerning about who we hire and the number of trainees we hire per year. Of course, we expect our trainees to demonstrate competence, professionalism, and dedication throughout their time with us.

✓ Who will be guiding me?

During your time as a trainee with the Firm, you will be assigned a Mentor, who will be either an Associate Director or a Senior Associate. Your Mentor will provide close guidance and work alongside you on various matters, offering invaluable insights into both your professional development and life beyond the law.

In addition to your Mentor, you will benefit from the collective wisdom of all your seniors at the Firm, as you collaborate with them on a wide range of matters.

✓ Will my experience only be confined to construction law?

No. While the Firm has a specialised edge in construction, infrastructure and engineering projects, we also take on matters relating to civil and commercial litigation as well as international and domestic arbitration. More often than not, a single matter can require navigating through multiple areas of law, such as contract and tort law, the law of arbitration, construction law, corporate law, insolvency law and even aspects of criminal law. You will also have the unique opportunity to concurrently be exposed to front-end advisory matters, including drafting and reviewing of contracts and other construction and/or project-related documentation.

✓ What is the honorarium?

We offer our current practice trainees the following:

A monthly honorarium of S$2,000 per month during the training contract and honorarium of S$500 per month for time spent at Part B of the Bar Examinations; and
Full subsidy of Part B of the Bar Examinations fees and other compulsory filing fees, provided the training contract is completed with us and you have accepted the Firm’s offer of retention as Associate.
